Opposition and SJB leader Sajith Premadasa yesterday said in Parliament that he would do his utmost to find out the masterminds behind the Easter Sunday attacks.

Participating in the debate on the Easter Sunday terror attacks, Premadasa said his party did not expect the incumbent government to reveal the truth in respect of the Easter Sunday carnage. “It is regrettable to notice that some ministers not are attending this debate. We will be forming a new government within six months, and we will establish a new special investigation commission to find the truth and punish those responsible,” Premadasa said.

The Opposition Leader said that a thorough probe would be conducted by a committee of local and foreign judges and experts appointed as per the provisions of Section 2 (1) C of the Commissions of Inquiry Act No 17 of 1948. “We will not impose any conditions affecting the investigation. We will also set up an independent office to implement the recommendations given by the probing committee and will set up a new court to punish the masterminds and aiders and abettors of the Easter Sunday terror attacks.”

Premadasa said that the Gotabaya Rajapaksa government had come to power, promising to find the truth but it had meddled with investigations. That government not only accused those who had nothing to do with the attacks and obstructed the probes carried out by officers such as Shani Abeysekera, he said.
