Beauty contestant Chamika Withanawasam has lodged a complaint with the Mirihana Police, alleging that she was duped by a local agent of a pageant held in Myanmar recently.

In her complaint Chamika has said that the local agent of the pageant collected money from her to facilitate her participation in the beauty contest in Myanmar, representing Sri Lanka, but the agent had thereafter absconded and did not make the necessary payments to the organisers, in Myanmar.

Chamika has told the police that she came to know about the issue at hand only after arriving in Myanmar on Nov. 06.

The complainant said that in addition to Rs. 600,000 paid to the national director here, she spent nearly Rs one million to prepare for the event.

Chamika said that she was compelled to pay for her accommodation, in Myanmar.

She said that though the organisers, in Myanmar, had allowed her to participate in the mini-contest, after she made the required payment, on the day before the final, she was informed by the organisers of their decision to keep her out of the main contest.
