The country is ruled by cabal of politicians and that was a main reason for the present crisis, former Media Dullas Alahapperuma has said in a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Alahapperuma has said that the entire Cabinet, including the Prime Minister must resign and allow Parliament to overcome the economic crisis by forming an all-party government.

“We must respect the sovereignty of the people and listen to their demands.

“The economic crisis has given rise to a political crisis. People have come to us. They are at our gates. Given the magnitude of this crisis this is not the time to take short-sighted and immature decisions. For decades the people of the country tolerated what politicians did but the current generation is not like that. We can see it now,” he said.

The Executive President, the Cabinet and the government must only tackle the current crisis democratically. By using power and money to buy MPs will only make matters worse, he has warned.

“The current Cabinet consists mostly of young people. But the decision was taken too late. Decisions have to be taken at the right time.”
