DSS take major hobours as 18th Battle of the Golds ends in draw

Forced to follow on after being dismissed for 239 runs, openers Dulnith Sigera and Kavindu Amameth scored unbeaten centuries for Mahanama to post 206 for no loss at close to draw the 18th Battle of the Golds against D. S. Senanayake at the SSC ground on Saturday .

It was a complete contrast to the team’s performance in the first innings after being bowled out for 239 runs in reply DSS’ huge score of 370 for four wickets declared.

Mahanama lost wickets at regular intervals in the first innings on a wicket which looked a batting paradise when DSS were batting. DSS had their skipper Gaviru Senhas accomplishing a remarkable achievement as he scored a double century.

His less than a run a ball knock powered DSS to a commanding position. He scored his 50 in 39 balls and needed only 72 balls to reach his century. He had consumed just 189 balls for his double century which included 27 fours and two sixes. He was joined by Malitha Perera to post a second wicket partnership of 248 runs. Perera scored 118 runs.

Amameth and Sigera were the stars in Mahanama’s second innings as they scored unbeaten centuries. Amameth’s unbeaten 106 came in 105 balls and included 13 fours and a six.

Sigera’s unbeaten century came in 91 balls and was inclusive of 13 fours and a six.

DSS bagged major honours in the two-day encounter with Senhas winning the Man of the Match award and the Best Batsman Award.Akmal Fazly who picked up five wickets for DSS was adjudged the Best Bowler of the match. Fazly bowled the bulk of overs for DSS.
