Drone operations continue – Police Spokesman

About 120 people had been arrested so far with the help of drones, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said yesterday, adding that 24 police ares were still isolated and steps had been taken to ensure that residents of those areas abided by the quarantine laws.

A special operation had been conducted in those areas together with drone surveillance, on Thursday, the DIG said.

“The security forces, police and health officers are doing what they can to control the situation. Some areas have been isolated to contain COVID-19. Residents of these areas have to be extra careful but we see some people are acting irresponsibly and that is why we are using drones.”

Rohana added that during the 24 hours that ended at 8 am yesterday, 46 people had been arrested for violating quarantine laws. The total number of people arrested for violating quarantine laws, from October 30, is 358. They would be charged under quarantine laws, the DIG said.

The Police spokesman said that wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing was part of the new normal that people had to come to terms with. “There are many people suffering from Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and we must do what we can to protect them from COVID-19. This is what the President also wants and this should be what all responsible citizens want.
