Draft National Policy on Archives and Records Management in the making

The Department of National Archives last week announced a public hearing on the draft National Policy on Archives and Records Management on Aug. 25 (Friday) from 9.30 a.m. onwards at the Auditorium of the Department of National Archives, Colombo.

Dr. Nadeera Rupesinghe, the Director Generl of National Archives said all are welcome to attend the hearing. On Friday those who submitted written comments on the draft policy before Aug. 14, as previously notified, will first be invited to present oral comments. Thereafter, other members of the public will be given the opportunity to comment.

She said the draft policy can be downloaded from the official website www.archives.gov.lk of the National Archives.

“The main objective of this National Policy is to provide an appropriate framework for shaping the management, protection and accessibility of the country’s archives and records. The policy further emphasizes the importance of adhering to archives and records management standards, training archivists and records managers, preserving collective memories, and embracing technological advances in archives and records management,” she said.
