Dr. Kariyawasam elected  Chairman,  Municipal Standing Committee on Health and Sanitation

Former Chief Medical Officer Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and current SLPP CMC Councilor, Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam has been elected Chairman of the Municipal Standing Committee on Health and Sanitation for this year.

Kariyawasam, contacted by The Island, said that he would concentrate on COVID-19 preventive work at the CMC through community participation and strengthening of civil organisations. He added that at present preventive work, which played a major role in combating any disease, had been neglected in the city.

 “Health education programmes will be greatly increased to create an informed society, especially in the low income areas of the city. These were the areas that were subject to lockdowns in the recent past, i.e. in Colombo North, Dematagoda, Borella etc.”
