Double titles for Senura and Bimandee

All Island Open Ranking Under-15 and Under-18 Tournament

Senura Silva of Ananda College, Colombo and Bimandee Bandara of Hillwood College, Kandy won two age category titles at the All Island Open Ranking Under-15 and Under-18 Tournament conducted by the Western Province Table Tennis Association.

The Anandian beat Chandupa Alahakoon in the Under-18 boys’ singles final after also claiming the victory in the Under-15 tournament, where he beat Akesh Dimantha in the final.

Silva scored victory in straight sets (13-10,11-9,11-6) in the Under-15 event while the under-18 final was stretched to five sets by Chandupa Alahakoon (5-11,15-13,11-6,3-11,11-7).

Bimandee Bandara beat both her final opponents in straight sets. In the under-15 final she beat Oneli Lehansa 11/3,11/3,11/5. In the Under-18 final Bandara beat Jithara Warnakulasuriya 11/8,11/6,13/11.

The Western Province Table Tennis Association conducted the All Island Under-15 and Under-18 Ranking tournament at S. Thomas’ Indoor Stadium on Saturday (10). These age group segments were to be held previously alongside the Open Men’s and Women’s tournaments in February but were postponed due to safety concerns. This tournament sanctioned by the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka is an annually held event listed in the TTASL tournament calendar.

Due to Covid 19, the Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka and its affiliated clubs could not conduct tournaments during 2020.

The Under 15 boys’ segment attracted 71 players whilst 53 players competed in the girls’ category. In the Under 18 boys’ age group 58 players participated in and 44 players competed in the girls Under 18 category.
