Doing it for 50 years…

Sunil Perera is a legend, indeed, and his band, the Gypsies, is known to practically every Sri Lankan, both here and abroad.

It was in 1971 that the Gypsies made their first appearance, on stage, and that means they have been around for half a century – no doubt, a landmark.

Sunil had several plans, in mind, to celebrate their 50 years, in showbiz, in a glittering way – yes, only an entertainer of Sunil’s calibre would be capable of working out.

“The year 2021 was going to be special for us, and for our fans, but everything we had in mind have now got to be shelved.”

Sunil is, no doubt, disappointed that he is unable to celebrate this milestone, in a special way, and give his fans something to remember for years to come.

However, if there are any signs of an improvement, in the present setup, we may see a surprise, or two, from Sunil and the Gypsies!
