… warn of ‘maximum possible trade union measures’

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) yesterday (18) vowed to do everything in its power to prevent the enactment of the Inland Revenue Amendment Bill.

Accusing the government of unilateral action in this regard, the GMOA, in a statement issued under the hand of its Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge, declared that it would take maximum possible trade union measures against the move.

The GMOA issued the statement in the wake of the Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, and Foreign Minister, Ali Sabry, PC, questioning whether those in the medical profession paid sufficient taxes.

Acknowledging the responsibility on the part of the public, including professionals to pay taxes, the GMOA emphasized that the government should be fair in implementing tax policies (SF)
