District Court summons Sirisena and Dayasiri on plaint filed by Nimal Siripala
The Colombo District Court yesterday issued notices on the Chairman of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), former President Maithripala Sirisena and party Secretary MP Dayasiri Jayasekara, after considering a petition filed by Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva. They were asked to appear before the court on 19 October 19.
Minister de Silva has told the court that the SLFP leadership has decided to remove him from all positions he holds in the party. The Minister has requested the court to annul this decision. In September, the SLFP decided to strip its MPs who accepted ministerial portfolios in the current government of their positions in the party. The party’s Central Committee decided that no SLFP MP should accept positions in the government. Minister de Silva had violated that decision, the SLFP said.
On the basis of that CC decision Nimal Siripala de Silva, Mahinda Amaraweera, Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Jagath Pushpakumara and Chamara Sampath Dassanayake were removed from party positions.
