Discussion on draft Constitution today
A public discussion on the draft Constitution, formulated by a nine-member committee, headed by President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva, will be held at Sri Lanka Foundation today (12) from 3 pm.
A copy of the draft was presented to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa last year. The committee consisted of President’s Counsel Gamini Marapana, Manohara de Silva, Sanjeewa Jayawardena, Samantha Ratwatte and Prof. Naseema Kamurdeen, Dr. A. Sarveshwaran, Prof. Wasantha Seneviratne and Prof. G.H. Peiris.
Several members of that committee are scheduled to participate in the discussion. Political sources said that though Justice Minister Ali Sabry, PC, appointed the committee on the directions of then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the ruling SLPP hadn’t commented on the draft so far.
