Disaster management units set up for today’s election

The Centre for Disaster Management together with the Election Commission has established special 24-hour operational units in 25 districts to face emergencies that may arise during today’s general election.

Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Deputy Director, Media Spokesman, Pradeep Kodippili said that the joint venture, established under the direction of the DMC Chairman and the Election Commission Chairman, Mahinda Deshapriya, would be assisted by security forces and Police.

He said that they would be actively engaged until Friday.

The public has been advised to utilise the following numbers to report any emergency situation: 070-2117117, 011-3668032, 011-3668087, 011-3668025, 011-3668026 and 011-3668119.

The unit will be also reachable via the hotline 114 and emergency number 17.
