Dilith: External intervention succeeded due to internal destabilisation
Dilith Jayaweera, one of the close associates of ousted President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, said that National Freedom Front (NFF) leader Wimal Weerawansa, MP, has ignored the role played by the family in creating an environment conducive for external intervention.
As one of the first MPs to recognise the growing threat posed by the family, and the SLPP, to President Rajapaksa, the MP should have, at least briefly explained the internal destabilisation project.
External operations, if any, couldn’t have succeeded without the crisis within, Jayaweera said, pointing out that the ISIS, too, exploited the situation, at that time, against the backdrop of the total intelligence failure, to mount the 2019 Easter Sunday attacks.
Jayaweera said so when The Island sought his opinion on MP Weerawansa’s ‘Nine: The Hidden Story’ that dealt with alleged US and Indian hand in the regime change operation here. If the appointment of Dr. P. B, Jayasundera, as the Secretary to the President, had been the first serious fault, the second was accommodating Basil Rajapaksa, on the SLPP National List, regardless of strong opposition by a section of the parliamentary group. Jayaweera said that he was strongly opposed to the enactment of the 20th Amendment to bring Basil Rajapaksa to Parliament again
