Dilanka, Rangadari win Schools Games half marathon

Winners of the boys' half marathon.

Dilanka Ganganath of Vidyaraja Vidyalaya, Ratnapura and Rangadari Kumarasinghe of Sri Devananda Central College, Welimada won the boys’ and girls’ half marathons respectively of the All-Island Schools Games held at Galle on Saturday.

Ganganath clocked one hour, 16 minutes and 22 seconds to win the boys’ event ahead of S. Keeran of Mulankavil Central College, Kilinochchi (1:17.22 secs). Lasitha Pradeep of Ukpitiya Central College, Uva was placed third in a time of 1:18.13 secs.

Hasindu Dhananjaya of Bandaranaike MV, Veyangoda, S. Thudiharshidan of Hindu National School, Matale, B. Sahirdan of Kalaimagal National School, Ratnapura and B. Abhinesh of Diyabowapura Vidyalaya, Uwa were placed fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.

In the girls’ category, Rangadari Kumarasinghe took one hour, 33 minutes and 36 seconds to complete the 21 kilo metres route. Chamila Siriwardane of Senapathi Central College, Monaragala (1:34.20 secs) and Pabodha Imashani of Welimada Central (1:34.48 secs) finished second and third respectively.

Kavindu Madushan of Kaburawala National College and K. Y. Chamindi of Makandura Central College were the winners of the boys’ and girls’ five kilometers race.

The event organized by the Ministry of Education as part of its annual Schools Games was sponsored by Nestle Lanka.
