Dew resigns as General Secretary of CP

Former Minister D.E.W. Gunasekera has resigned from the post of the General Secretary of the Communist Party. Dr. G. Weerasinghe has replaced him as the General Secretary.

Gunasekera told media yesterday that the time was right to let a new generation of leaders take over the party. However, he would still be a member of the politburo, Gunasekera said. The veteran Marxist held the post of General Secretary of the Communist Party from 2004.
