President Ranil Wickremesinghe congratulates Kilmisha Udayasheelan, who won the “Little Champs 2023” reality competition organized by the “Zee Tamil” channel in Tamil Nadu, India

At a dinner gathering with professionals in Jaffna on Thursday (04), President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that provinces should utilize the powers granted by the 13th Amendment for economic development, asserting that devolution should not merely be a political concept but an economic reality. “If we examine the provisions of the 13th Amendment, there is ample authority to establish a robust local economy. We pledge not to intervene in those affairs. I am encouraging you to take the initiative. Rather than seeking to monopolize funds from Colombo, consider the examples set by other nations.” he said.

The President highlighted three key areas for economic growth – renewable energy, modernizing agriculture, and tourism. He emphasized the vast potential for renewable energy in the Northern Province, particularly in wind and solar power. The President also outlined plans for modernizing agriculture, making it competitive on a global scale. Additionally, he introduced initiatives to boost tourism, including cruise tourism and themed trails focused on religious and cultural sites.
