Devananda warns of bid to deceive Tamil electorate once again
..refers to ICJ’s failure to halt Israeli military action
EPDP leader and Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda has warned the Tamil electorate not to be deceived by repeated assurances given by Tamil politicians that Sri Lanka would be hauled up before International Criminal Court (ICC).
Addressing a gathering in Jaffna on Tuesday (30) said that some Tamil politicians had deceived the people with such false claims over a period of time.
Minister Devananda said that the failure on the part of the ICJ (International Court of Justice) to force Israel to halt offensive action directed against the people of Gaza in spite of South African intervention on their behalf is a case in point that the international action wouldn’t help.
Sri Lanka brought the war to a successful conclusion in May 2009. Minister Devananda alleged that those who couldn’t stomach the services rendered by the incumbent government to the Tamil community relentlessly sought to convince the community of the need for external interventions (SF)
