Devananda warns against endangering lives of encroaching Indian fishers
Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda told a gathering at the Mannar District Fisheries auditorium that action should be taken to curb poaching in Sri Lankan waters without endangering the lives of Indian fishers.
A Fisheries Ministry statement quoted EPDP leader Devananda as having said so at a meeting arranged to discuss Indian fishing fleet crossing the Indo-Lanka maritime boundary, the negative impact of the second stage of the wind power plant in Mannar and other illegal fisheries activities.
Minister Devananda has directed fisheries societies to cooperate with the Navy, tasked with curbing illegal methods employed by fishermen.
