Those pretending to be nationalists have thwarted development in N & E

Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda says that Tamil speaking people should be aware of the fact that he is the only Cabinet Minister who speaks their language.

Having assumed duties at his ministry, the Minister said some Tamil politicians had deceived the Tamil speaking people for a long time while pretending to be nationalists. He said they had thwarted development in the North and the East.

Minister Devananda requested the Tamils living overseas to invest in Sri Lanka.

The incumbent government was well aware that some politicians had cheated the investors among the expatriate Tamils and consequently they were wary of parking their money in Sri Lanka, the minister said.

Devananda said he was ready to provide investors with all necessary facilities and an undertaking that their money was safe if they were willing to bring in foreign exchange.

He called on the Tamil speaking people to stand with him and join hands with the current government led by the President and the Prime Minister and help take necessary steps to usher in a bright future for the people in the North and the East and their children.
