Determined Adishtan saves Maliyadeva

A match saving knock by Rishi Adishtan, and centuries by Shane Adithya, Kaveen Fernando, Tharinda Nirmal and Janeth Kaushal for their respective schools were the highlights in the Inter School Under 19 cricket encounters played on Tuesday.
Maliyadeva were bowled out for 141 runs, in reply to St. Joseph’s 352 for four wickets declared and they needed a special effort to save the match. Following on Rishi Adhishtan produced that special effort anchoring the middle order with a determined knock of 78 runs as the visitors posted 188 for seven wickets at close to force a draw. They were 114 for five wickets at one stage but Adhishtan held one end with his unbeaten knock for which he faced 163 balls.
At Moratuwa, spinner Malsha Tharupathi completed a match bag of 11 wickets as he took two second innings wickets. The day’s highlights were the centuries scored by Tharinda Nirmal and Janeth Kaushal who helped Richmond post 311 for seven wickets declared.
The day’s highest knock was scored by Maris Stella’s Shane Adithya who scored 159 runs inclusive of 23 fours. Adithya and Kaveen Fernando (100) put on a second wicket stand of 185 runs as Maris Stella reached 337 for three wickets declared. St. Aloysius’ managed to force a draw as they reached 74 for three wickets at close.
At Asgiriya, spinner Niman Umesh picked up five wickets for St. Peter’s to contain Trinity to 189 runs before Sri Lanka Under 19 cap Wanuja Sahan anchored the visitors’ batting line up for them to post 116 for five wickets at stumps.
At Katugastota, Thisara Ekanayake, Asitha Wanninayake and Chandimal Herath scored half centuries for St. Anthony’s to post 288 runs against Thurstan.
