Dengue spreading fast among children in Suthumalai, Jaffna

Twenty one children afflicted with dengue had been detected from Suthumalai, Jaffna between 18 and 24 January, regional health officials said. PHI for Suthumalai, M. Jayapradeep said all the children were under the age of ten.

The total number of dengue cases reported in Suthumalai last week was 47. Jayapradeep said it was a serious development and they were working with the police and the tri forces to check all possible dengue mosquito breeding sites in the area.

They had identified 47 properties where there were dengue breeding sites and legal action had been taken against six persons who had failed to destroy the mosquito breeding places, Jayapradeep said.
