Chamuditha summoned to CID over controversial interview

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) yesterday (21) took into custody a Buddhist monk, who describes himself as Vishwa Buddha.Police said the suspect had been arrested at Kalagedihena, following a spate of controversial statements by him.

The suspect, first arrested on 12 Dec., for making derogatory statements regarding Buddhism, was granted bail on 08 Jan., by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.Since receiving bail, the suspect appeared on various online platforms and continued to make controversial statements.

Meanwhile, Hiru anchor Chamuditha Samarawickrama said that he had been summoned before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) this week over comments the suspect made during a recently-posted interview with him.
