Delta variant: 43 infections detected in Velvettiturai and Point Pedro

The Jaffna Health Officials on Thursday night (15) decided to isolate four villages in Valvettiturai and Point Pedro, in the Jaffna peninsula, following the detection of several dozens of coronavirus Delta variant infections.
The health officers said that they had detected 43 patients with the Delta strain from those villages.
The Office of the Provincial Director of Health Services – North said that they had not yet decided to isolate the village in Kilinochchi where patients with the Delta strain were detected.
“Two COVID-19 patients who were being treated at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital died soon after admission. We don’t know if they had contracted the Delta variant but those infected with this variant were found in villages in that area.”
