Delegation from ‘Gota Go Gama’ meets Election Commission

A 12-member delegation comprising youth activists engaged in the ongoing protest at the Galle Face met members of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka (ECSL) on Wednesday (04) morning.
Manjula Gajanayaka Executive Director of the Institute of Democratic Reforms and Electoral Studies (IRES), who arranged the meeting at the request of the ECSL, said that the discussion had been fruitful.
Gajanayaka formerly of the Centre for Monitoring Election Violence (CMEV) said that the youth had stood firm on their demands that an interim government should be formed, and that the President should resign and requested the election commission to do everything in its power to safeguard their democratic rights.
All five members of the Election Commission of Sri Lanka namely Nimal Punchihewa (Chairman), S.B. Divarathne, M Mohamed, K P P Pathirana and Mrs. P.S.M. Charles were present at the discussion.
