Dayasiri denies reports of his crossover to SJB

SLPP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera has denied reports that he switched his allegiance to the SJB.The former SLFP General Secretary said that he remained with the SLFP. Jayasekera was among 13 SLFPers elected on the SLPP ticket at the last general election conducted in August 2020. Contesting under its symbol, the SLFP only won one seat in the Jaffna electoral district.

Kurunegala District MP Jayasekera said that he was one of four MPs who voted against the Wickremesinghe-Rajapaksa government’s 2024 Budget.

Of the 14 SLFPers in Parliament, nine voted for the Budget, four voted against, and one was absent. MP Jayasekera said that he didn’t discuss switching sides with the SJB or any other party. Somewhat similarly a few months ago, Kurunegala district SLPP MP Asanka Navaratne of the Sri Lanka Mahajana Pakshaya denied reports of him receiving the SJB membership.
