Day Dreams… now a reality

Variety is the spice of life, they say, and we need it, especially where the music scene is concerned.

Music lovers say they are now getting kind of bored with the setup here … with hardly anything new to talk about.

Day Dreams hail from Galle and have been around for a little over two months and, what’s more, within this very short period they have impressed quite a few who had the opportunity of seeing them perform.

They have already been seen in action at five wedding events and also performed at a pub, in their area.

Day Dreams is a six-piece outfit, made up of Avishka Kanakarathne (drums), Viraj Sachintha (guitar), Amod Kaushika (bassist and vocals), Subodha Nanayakkara (keyboardist and vocals), Malith Chamara (vocals), and Lishan Thashmina (vocals).

The guys are all from the 2000s, and, being relatively young, they say their aim is to introduce something different to the music scene here, and they are already at it … with some impressive video clips on social media.

According to Subodha Nanayakkara, they started their band by posting a video, called ‘Ranindu Medley’, on YouTube. “We posted it on 22nd of June, 2023. Two months later, we posted our second video, called ‘Chinthy Medley’ and that was when we celebrated our second month as Day Dreams”.

It’s interesting to note how Day Dreams became a reality.

Subodha says the six guys, who make up the band, are all neighbours.

‘All of us are new to this music field and none of us have been involved in the music scene before.

“Of course, music is something we all love and then one day Viraj and I thought of putting together a band to satisfy our liking for music.

“Aviskha, Amod, Malith and Lishan came into the scene and it was Viraj who suggested the name Day Dreams … probably as we were day dreaming of making our passion for music a reality.”

Their repertoire include jazz, reggae, RnB, pop, rap, and Sinhala songs, as well.

“We are now eagerly looking forward to displaying our musical talents at pubs, clubs, parties, weddings, or any other special occasions”, says Subodha.
