Dambulla Aura’s winless streak continues
Dambulla Aura are facing elimination in this year’s Lanka Premier League as they are unable to get a win under their belt having lost all four games so far and are languishing last in the points table. Skippered by national white ball captain Dasun Shanaka, Dambulla Aura suffered a huge 77 run loss yesterday at the hands of Kandy Falcons at Pallekele.
Set a target of 194, Dambulla Aura were bowled out for 116 runs inside 15 overs. Carlos Brathwaite and Chamindu Wijesinghe picked up three wickets each as Dambulla Aura failed to get going. Captain Shanaka failed to trouble the scorers and his two overs went for 22 runs without a wicket.
Kandy Falcons got off to a good start with Pathum Nissanka (26) and Andre Fletcher (44) adding 48 runs for the first wicket in 35 deliveries. Kamindu Mendis then smashed a quick 58 off 40 balls with nine fours and he was well supported by Ashen Bandara, who hit 42 off 22 balls with four fours and one six.
The win helped Kandy Falcons to the top of the points table. After five games Kandy Falcons have won four games and secured eight points. Although Jaffna Kings also have eight points, following yesterday’s win, Wanindu Hasaranga’s side has got a far superior Net Run Rate of 2.19.
After two more games in the Kandy leg today, teams will return to Colombo where RPS will host rest of the games.
