Daily allocation per student for ‘School Food Programme’ increased to Rs 110/-

The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for the resolution furnished by the Minister of Education to increase the amount spent for a meal per student under the ‘School Food Programme’ to Rs. 110/- and to implement the programme  for 170 days within the year 2024 for the students in the primary division (grade 1 to 5)

The ‘School Food Programme’ is implemented in 7,902 schools within the 100 education zones in the island benefiting a total of 1.08 million students. It was found that the  Rs. 85/- allocated per student per day for a meal was insufficient and a committee appointed to look into the matter has recommended that at least  Rs. 110/- is allocated per student due to the rise in food prices.

The Save the Children organization has agreed to provide 03 items of food to two hundred thousand students in 917 selected schools for the year 2024 under the ‘School Food Programme’
