Dahamdi and Esha lead after sixth round
Youth Girls (U14) Chess Grand Prix 2021
Dahamdi Sanudula of Musaeus College and Esha Pallie of Visakha Vidyalaya took the lead in Group ‘X’ and ‘Y’ respectively after the sixth round of the Round Robin stage of the second Sri Lanka Youth Girls Chess Grand Prix 2021 conducted by the Chess Federation of Sri Lanka.
Dahamdi beat Dehansa Sandanayake and Yasasi Abeysekara in Group ‘X’ while Esha beat Chanindi Attanayake and Oneli Weerawardena in Group ‘Y’ to maintain their unbeaten status.
The second SL Youth Girls Chess Grand Prix 2021 which commenced on Friday will conclude on April 10. The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka is offering Rs. 55,000.00 as cash awards and the top 18 girls (Under 14) chess players are competing for the award.
Nemindi Ramanayake of Bandaranayake Central College, Veyangoda was in the second place with five points in Group ‘Y’ after she scored a win against Sasmi Sithumsa. In the fifth round she received a bye.
Oneli Vithanawasam of Lyceum International School, Wattala and Oneli Weerawardena of Lyceum International, Rathnapura were sharing the second spot in Group ‘Y’. They shared 4 ½ points each. When the two met they forced a draw and conceded defeat to leading player Esha Pallie.
The last three rounds of this championship will be held on Friday and Saturday.
Then the top four players in Group ‘X’ and ‘Y’ will play a knockout round in FIDE world cup format of two classical games, two rapid games and two blitz games.
