D.S. Senanayaka College, Colombo are almost certain of retaining their place as the top team in Group ‘Y’ of the Under 19 Division I Tier ‘A’ cricket tournament after spinner Randhisha Bandaranayake bagged 12 wickets to seal a comfortable 90 runs win over Maliyadeva on Saturday.

Off-spinner picked up six wickets each in the two innings to restrict the home team to low scores at Kurunegala.

While Bandaranayake excelled in the bowling department, Pesandu Weerasinghe and skipper Gaviru Senhas contributed with the bat.

The outright victory over Maliyadeva came in what turned out to be their penultimate match of the tournament.

It was their fourth outright victory following wins against St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota (by five wickets), St. Servatius’ College, Matara (by seven wickets) and Wesley College (by nine wickets).

DSS also recorded some notable first innings performances. They took first innings points against St. Joseph’s, S. Thomas’, Mount Lavinia and Gurukula.

Their only blemish in the tournament so far was the defeat to St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa.

While DSS are the current leaders in their group, St. Sebastian’s are placed second. With the Sebs having completed their quota of nine matches, DSS are likely remain in the top position.
