Customs officials seize Rs 4 mn worth foreign cigarettes

Customs officials arrested two Lankan passengers at the Bandaranaike International Airport on Wednesday (10) while they were attempting to smuggle in a stock of foreign cigarettes. Officers of the Narcotics Control Unit of the Customs arrested a 45-year-old woman and a man and seized 50,000 cigarettes.

Customs officers found 250 cartons containing 50,000sticks of cigarettes hidden in the bag-gage of the suspects. The seized stock of cigarettes is believed to be worth four million rupees.
