Customs nab AAS employee with 9 kg of gold

Customs anti-narcotic officers yesterday nabbed an employee of the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) yesterday while he was attempting to smuggle in nine kilos of gold, near the departure terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport.
Customs Spokesman Senior Customs Director Seevali Arukgoda said the stock of gold apprehended consisted of gold cards that looked like credit cards, gold in gel form and also gold jewellery.
The gold taken into custody, weighing around nine kilos in total was worth nearly Rs. 200 million, Arukogoda said.
The Narcotics Control Unit of Sri Lanka Customs is conducting further investigations.
