Cruelty to animals as entertainment

A traditional cart race held during an avurudu festival in Colombo on 11 May. The Sinhala and Tamil New year is celebrated in April and avurudu sports events are held in the month of May as well. Animal rights groups have been campaigning for a ban on cart races, which cause suffering to bulls.
