Cricket fever…raging
With several cricket playing nations, involved in the T20 World Cup, now being held in Australia, cricket fever is certainly raging across the globe and, more so, in Melbourne, where a good many Sri Lankans are now based.
Created by Rajiv Sebastian, the song is titled ‘Cricket Kirula 2022,’ and the singer has also worked on a very entertaining video, to go with it.
The lyrics, melody, music arrangements, and storyboard (for the video), are all Rajiv’s creations…with his group, The Clan, coming into the scene to provide the music
Of course, the legendary Sohan Weerasinghe has to be around, somewhere, to give, any occasion, that magic touch, and he does it in style, with Rajiv, in ‘Cricket Kirula 2022’.
Rajiv, in the meanwhile, is in Australia, enjoying the cricket.
The first game he witnessed was the match between Sri Lanka and The Netherlands.
The atmosphere was exciting, he says, with the Melbourne Papare band, doing the needful. They also ushered in Rajiv, to the stadium, by playing the famous ‘Katharagama’ song of the late Clarence Wijewardene.
Performance-wise, Rajiv was featured at an event, held in Perth, with Annesley Malawana, Indrani Perera, and the Golden Chimes.
For Rajiv, it was extra special, performing in Perth.
“I’ve been to Australia quite a few times and have performed at most of the cities, Down Under, but this was the first opportunity I got to visit Perth, and get on stage.”
He is also scheduled to do a gig, in Melbourne, on October 28th, before his departure for home.
Rajiv and The Clan will be seen in action, in the UK, shortly, doing three dinner-dances.
The T20 World Cup also saw Sri Lanka involved in a big way, when we played Nambia, in the World Cup opener.
Johann Dias Jayasinha and David Cruse were invited, by the International Cricket Council, to carry the World Cup trophy, to the playing field, before the start of the Sri Lanka-Nambia game.
This is in recognition of Jayasinha’s work in promoting the game of cricket, among communities, in Australia, while David Cruse, in addition to his contribution to cricket, and his wife, Cathy, have been involved in many charity projects that has benefited the Sri Lankan people.
