CR & FC down CH & FC 28-23 in club rugby thriller

Unbeaten CR & FC faced stiff resistance from CH & FC in their Division 1 Inter-Club league rugby tournament fixture played at Longden Place before pulling off a close 28-23 win on Friday. This match was the one that produced thunder in the fourth week of rugby where all the fancied teams pulled through with reigning champions Kandy SC producing the highest score (30-13) for the week. Kandy’s win came against Air Force Sports Club and the match was played at Ratmalana.

CH & FC produced competitive rugby during the 80 minutes of play and scored twice in the match, but the host team did a little better to score four tries and take the game away from the Gymkhana Club players.

The try scorers for CR were Lasindu Ishan, Randy Silva and Ruberu with the third touchdown being recorded as a penalty try. The try scorers for CH were Prasath Madusanka and Dinesh Lakshan.

Also on Friday Army SC got the better of Navy SC recording a 29-17 win in their match played at Panagoda.

On Saturday Kandy SC ran down five tries in their match against Air Force even though the first half was well contested. Air Force were leading 6-5 at half time. Kandy SC collected their points through five tries, one conversation and a penalty while Air Force responded with a try.

Also on Saturday Havelocks SC did well to beat Police SC by 16 points to 5 at Police Park. The match winner for Havies was Samuel Maduwantha who contributed 11 points with his kicking boots. The winners led 13-0 at half time.
