CPC not in a position to supply more fuel – minister
A 6,600 litre fuel bowser could fill the tanks only about 220 vehicles, the Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera said yesterday.
He said that he had seen over 2,000 vehicles in some fuel queues.
“People are waiting in line for a long time but we have limited supplies. Most gas stations only receive one bowser a day,” Minister Wijesekera said.
The Minister said that there was no point in creating trouble near a gas station because the CPC was not in a position to send additional fuel supplies.
“If people create chaos, we might not be able to send any supplies. There is a serious fuel shortage, and there is nothing gas station workers can do,” he said.
The Minister said that Sri Lanka would receive 40,000 tonnes of diesel on Thursday. Another ship carrying 40,000 tonnes of petrol would arrive on 19 June, he said.
