Covid probe: CID receives instructions from AG

‘Health crisis a national calamity’

Attorney General Dappula de Livera, PC, yesterday (18) advised the CID bigwigs on the inquiry into what he called the Brandix covid cluster.

Among those present at a meeting summoned by the AG were DIG, CID and Director of CID.

Acting IGP C. D. Wickremaratne named a team of CID officers to probe the eruption of the second corona wave.

AG’s Coordinating Officer, State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne told The Island that Acting IGP had been informed of the need to conduct a high-leven investigation expeditiously.

The State Counsel said that the AG had also requested the Acting IGP to submit a progress report on the COVID-19 investigation.

The AG drew the attention of the police to what was termed a national calamity. Earlier, the IGP directed the police to probe negligence and lapses on the part of Brandix and government officials in that regard.
