COVID claims 10 lives at LRH

Ten children admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children had died of COVID-19 since March 2020, Dr. G. Wijesuriya, the Director of LRH told the media on Friday.

He added that negligence of parents and family members was the main reason why children contracted the disease.

“Many people now think that there is nothing to be worried about once they are inoculated. This is not how it works. You maybe fully vaccinated, but your infant isn’t. This is not to say vaccination is not important. You must get both jabs as soon as possible. What I mean is that even if you are fully vaccinated, you can still carry the disease and transmit it to someone else,” Dr. Wijesuriya said.

Parents must also be vigilant whether the children show any signs of COVID-19 and if they do, immediately seek medical help, he said.
