COVID cases cross 800th mark for seventh consecutive day
Health official urge publit to get booster shots

The daily count of Covid-19 cases had exceeded 800 for the seventh consecutive day on Tuesday (25), the Health Ministry says with a total of 5947 cases reported from January 19 to 26.
Deputy Director General of Health Services, Dr. Hemantha Herath told The Island yesterday that a lot of people had not taken the booster shot.
“These people need to get fully vaccinated,” he said.
Dr. Herath added that almost 50% of COVID patients detected in Sri Lanka could be infected with the Omicron variant. With the new variant, a large number of patients with mild symptoms will be moving about in society posing a threat to those with comorbidities, he said.
