Covid-19: Public not keen to receive booster jab – Doc
By Rathindra Kuruwita
Only eight million out of 14.4 million people over the age of 20 had taken the COVID-19 booster jab, Dr. Samitha Ginige, Chief Epidemiologist of the Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry, said.
“The number of infections is increasing and there are still people who have not been double jabbed. People should immediately take the vaccines if they have not taken them,” Dr. Ginige said, adding that the people must continue to follow good health habits and those over 60, and those with chronic diseases, must be very careful.
“If you have elderly or weak individuals in your homes, you too need to be careful. For you it must be just the flu, but for someone else it can be death.”
He said that most people had taken the first two jabs and Sri Lankans are enjoying a degree of normalcy because of that. However, the immunity from those two jabs might have decreased in certain individuals.
