COVID-19: Nine patients, five hospital workers infected at Ratnapura Hospital

Five members of the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital and nine patients had tested positive for COVID-19, Regional Director Health Services Sabaragamuwa Province, Dr. Kapila Kannangara said yesterday.
Among them were a doctor, two nurses, two members of the minor staff working in a ward where those who were suspected of having COVID-19 were receiving treatment.
Dr. Kannangara said: “We have sent all of them for treatment and also taken steps to prevent a further spread of the disease in the hospital. So the public must not worry. Operations at the Ratnapura Hospital continue uninterrupted.”
There is a growing cluster of COVID-19 in Ratnapura District. Travel restrictions have been imposed on four Grama Niladari Divisions in the Eheliyagoda Divisional Secretariat area and five Grama Niladari Divisions in the Godakawela Divisional Secretariat area.
Although people should not panic, it was important to follow health guidelines and to practice good health habits, Dr. Kannangara said.
“I urge people not to gather unnecessarily. They have to follow health guidelines.
