COVID-19 infections in 9 days total 937
Colombo
About 937 COVID-19 positive cases had been reported from Colombo city during the last nine days, Colombo Municipal Council Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijemuni told the media yesterday.
He said that 337 cases had been detected when PCR tests were conducted on those who were at the Peliyagoda Fish market; 4,000 people who had closely associated with them had been tested and 600 found to be COVID-19 positive, Dr. Wijemuni said.
The CMC’s Chief Medical Officer said that certain websites and social media accounts had reported that 937 cases had been reported in Colombo in a single day. “This is false,” he said.
A police officer attached to the Dam Street Police Station too has tested positive for the highly contagious virus, and he was in charge of the police mess. All 12 policemen attached to the station have been asked to self-quarantine.
