Court decision on removal of Ranil as respondent in Easter Sunday case to be announced on 01 March

Colombo Additional Magistrate Mahesha de Silva, on Wednesday, said that the decision on whether President Ranil Wickremesinghe would be removed as a respondent from a case pertaining to the Easter Sunday terror attacks would be announced on 01 March 2023.

The lawyer representing the Attorney General (AG) said that they were ready to accept any verdict given by the court.

The AG’s representative added that they would not represent Senior DIG Nilantha Jayawardena, who is also a respondent in the fundamental rights petitions.

Last week, the Supreme Court ordered ex-President Sirisena to Rs 100 million as compensation. Former IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former State Intelligence Service (SIS) Director Nilantha Jayawardena were ordered to pay Rs. 75 million each; former Defence Ministry Secretary Hemasiri Fernando was ordred to pay Rs. 50 million and former Chief of National Intelligence (CNI) Sisira Mendis Rs. 10 million.
