Couple who had wedding receptions in three towns sends 100 families for quarantine
They had also honeymooned in Nuwara-Eliya
Over 100 families in Homagama had been ordered to be quarantined after a couple, who held three separate events to mark their wedding, tested positive for the coronavirus, Homagama PHI, Priyantha Wijesuriya said.
He said that those events had been held at Kaduwela, Padukka and Watareka. The couple had obtained permission for the events in Kaduwela and Padukka, but not for the one at Watareka.
After the three events, the couple had gone to Nuwara-Eliya for their honeymoon and they had been subjected to a PCR test after they fell sick.
Wijesuriya said that they had traced those who attended the wedding receptions at issue. The Homagama PHI urged the public to be extremely cautious when holding weddings and other events where people gathered.
Wijesuriya said: “This is not the first time such an incident happened in Homagama. Recently another couple too tested COVID-19 positive and 12 people who had attended their wedding too contracted the virus.”
