Couple arrested for leaving newborn in train

The parents of an infant found abandoned in the Meenagaya train in Colombo were arrested on Saturday.The infant was found abandoned in the Meenagaya train at the Colombo Fort Railway station on Friday.

The baby’s mother was arrested in Nayabedda by the Bandarawela Police. The Police Media Spokesperson’s Office said that the father of the baby had been arrested by Koslanda Police in Miriyabedda. They 26 years old and unmarried.

According to the police, the father is employed in Dehiwala and after hearing that his girlfriend was about to deliver a child brought her to Colombo.

The infant was born on 25 February and was left in the train on Friday.The infant was found in a basket in the toilet of the train.The baby was admitted to the Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Colombo. It’s health condition is good, said Deputy Director of Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital, Dr. Santhushitha Senadhipathi.
