Country’s first city university opened at Pinnawela
Sabaragamuwa Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and State Ministers Kanaka Herath and Sita Arambepola at the opening

KANDY – Sri Lanka’s first City University was opened at Pinnawala near Rambukkana by the Governor of Sabaragamuwa Tikiri Kobbekaduwa on Saturday (27).
The higher education institution was opened in a four storeyed building constructed by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council at Pinnawala.
The City University (Purawara Vishwavidyalaya) is a project introduced by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’ manifesto to accommodate the students who failed to enter the state universities despite being eligible for university entrance.
Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa said that the job-oriented courses offered by the City University would be a boon to the youth expecting employment in sectors such as tourism, agriculture, veterinary science.
Present at the opening of the City University were State Ministers Kanaka Herath and Sita Arambepola and chief secretary, Sabaragamuwa Ranjani Jayakody.
