Cop (37) loses his life over an extra-marital affair

A 37-year-old police constable, attached to the Deniyaya Police Station, lost his life after being stabbed by a teenage Buddhist monk in Pallegama on Thursday. The incident occurred near the Sambodhi elders’ home on Gangoda Road.

The victim, a resident of Katuwana, sustained critical injuries and was initially admitted to Deniyaya Base Hospital before being transferred to Karapitiya Teaching Hospital for further medical care.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim, a married man, was engaged in an extramarital affair with the 26-year-old sister of the attacker.The monk allegedly contacted the constable that morning, arranging a meeting at the site of the tragic incident.

An argument ensued between the two, culminating in the 17-year-old monk stabbing the officer in the neck with a concealed knife from his bag.The suspect has been apprehended by Deniyaya Police.
