By Rathindra Kuruwita
The average weight of eggs imported from India is below 30 grams, Consumer Rights Activist, Asela Sampath says.Sampath said those tiny eggs were sold for between Rs 47 and 52 in the market”.
Sampath said the original plan was to sell the imported eggs to bakeries so that the prices of their products would drop. “However, the prices have not fallen. This is because these eggs are now sold to others,” he said. The Minister of Trade and the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) were silent about the egg racket, Sampath said.
