Complainant arrested over rape and murder of his wife in Jaffna

Maradankerni police have arrested a fisherman over the recent murder of his 44-year-old wife Jeyaseelan Sangeetha.

Police said that the suspect was taken into custody on Thursday (16) following investigations. The police launched investigations after the man lodged a complaint that she was found near their toilet and later rushed to Point Pedro hospital.

Investigations have revealed that she was strangled to death after being raped.

Having initially claimed that on the day of the incident he went out to sea and found her on the ground near their toilet, the suspect later admitted that he didn’t go fishing on that day.
